Gaston de Rohan

Un évêque de Strasbourg dans la question janseniste (1713-1718)
Claude Muller
p. 61-72

Abstracts

Bishop-prince of Strasbourg from 1704 to 1749, Gaston of Rohan is appointed great chaplain of the court by Louis XIV in 1713, a year after having been promoted to the cardinalate. From that moment on, the prelate is entrusted with the mission of putting an end to the Jansenist controversy. He commits himself efficiently to this end within his diocese, but fails to solve the crisis at the national level.
